Bin Chicken's are the bird of the moment! You can even find them on the top of Tamborine Mountain which is where I was teaching when I composed this song. Inspired by Kate and Jol Temple's book of the same name, this song is a favourite with every child that sings it. It also comes with free suggestions for actions.

A fun traditional song that I could never find an arrangement for so I made my own and added a fun introduction that really captures the characters that ducks truly are!!!

Because sometimes a classic is simply the best. To spice it up I've added a Jazzy piano part (which isn't easy to play... but oh it's gorgeous)

This song was inspired by the words of Humphrey Firkins who fought in WWII. He jumped out of a plane on D-day and woke up a week later in hospital... the only survivor in his division. After jumping out of the plane he had no recollection of what happened and years later in eighties this still brought tears to his eyes and a lump in his throat when re-telling the story.

This song is dedicated to John Gill, a convict who was sent across the world for stealing a case of tea to Van Diemen's lands, now known as Tasmania, Australia. His story struck a chord with me, as I have ancestors who were on the first fleet. It is because of the history of the convicts (and their petty crimes) that 1 in 5 Australian's find themselves living in this beautiful country we call Australia!

This song is all about being stuck inside because it won't stop raining! The verse was written back in the late 80's with the chorus being added in 2013.

Getting little people to eat greens is always a challenge! One day I was at a friends place and overheard a mum say to her son... "Look at all those delicious Dinosaur Leave!!!" Whatever works ;-)

A classic Aussie folk song. Lots of lyrics so this is suitable for older beginners (Grade 4-6). This was a tune that I loved so much but couldn't find an arrangement for so I whipped this one up and included one of my all time favourite Irish jigs, "Tenpenny Bit"

This song was written for older beginners (Grade 4-6) and is all about staring at the sky one day and spotting a red balloon; then chasing that balloon down and catching it only for it to slip away.
The focus of this composition is breath control and melodic line... as well as storytelling.

Written in 2024 for Tamborine Mountain College Songbird Choir. The song features the school mascots "Victory" (Vic) and "Valour" (Val). This song was written about dreams. When I was little my favourite dream was one of a knight in shining armour going into the battle! I love the idea of changing from dorian mode to d minor... the b natural and b flat transform the soundscape (plus the sneaky d whole tone scale to finish!)

This song was composed after turning up to work each day to be greeted by two guinea fowl (affectionately call Bubbles and Gubbles) who loved to look at themselves. In the spirit of aesops fables this song has a moral about the dangers of loving ones own looks!

Composed during COVID to represent a simple yet profound idea of leaving your worries behind rather than bottling them up and holding them inside.

The first composition in the Henry Kendall set. Based on Henry Kendall's poem 'Bellbirds' this poem was inspired by my time on Tamborine Mountain as a Music Teacher and enjoying the bush from my families home (to whom I also dedicated the piece). Junburra is the Yugumbeh word for fly.

The second composition in the Henry Kendall set. The words are based around his poem "The Earth Lament's the Day". This piece was is dedicated to a Year 12 student, Brittany Hills, who passed away in 2018. It was my way of dealing with the tragic loss and Henry Kendall's words were so fitting.

The third composition in the Henry Kendall set. This song is based on Kendall's poem 'The Merchant Ship'. I composed this piece with the Dunbar story in mind but it is also in recognition of the many ships that came to grief in the 19th Century before modern technology made shipping safer.
